I recorded a version of my song called “Hard Man.” Buried in the mix is a whistle. I initially thought that this countermelody was going to be a bass part. I couldn’t figure out how to play the part on any of my instruments. So I whistled it and it’s now my favorite thing about the recording. To be honest, the whistle helped me realize that my arrangement wasn’t right. I was editing the whistle while we were watching The Mandalorian. My family thought my whistle was part of the show. This made it clear that the rest of the mix didn’t achieve the vibe that I want the song to have. I’ve come up with a new arrangement and the only survivor is the whistle.
