There’s only one week until Christmas Day. You may be thinking that you need to get up early and plunge into the chaos. Get out there and buy some stuff so that you can do Christmas right. It’s Labor Day in the United States. Many people have a day from work. Stay in bed a little longer today and enjoy this classic from my Pull Up the Covers series.
A while back, I made a video series called Pull Up the Covers. It involved a green screen, an air mattress, and a photo of an interesting bed found on the internet. I was working on this series at a time in my history when I was trying to learn how to make great videos. I am fully aware that I have not learned how to make great videos. It was fun and incredibly beneficial to learn about using a green screen. I am proud of the videos that I made as part of this series. I would love to make more videos in this series but two hurdles make it difficult. First, it’s surprisingly difficult to find photos of beds that are appropriate and free to use. Second, these videos were time-consuming to make. I am thinking about reusing the videos from this series. I am not sure about the details but I think these videos turned out great and I would love to share them. Keep your eyes open for Brother Jack singing cover songs while in random beds. I am thinking of doing a similar series that involves singing lullabies with iconic nighttime landscapes edited into the background. Something like “Moon River” in front of the Eiffel Tower. So many ideas, so little time.

I started my Pull Up the Covers series a year ago today. In the videos, I play a cover song in front of a green screen and drop it on top of a random bed photograph that I find on the internet. This was a really fun project. “Because Monday mornings can be hard, we will pull up the covers.” Get it? It’s kind of a joke. I play a cover song in an imaginary bed and you pull up your covers. It’s a double use of the word cover and it’s rather clever. Really, it is.
I recorded about a dozen videos in this series and then ran out of interesting beds to use. I was surprised but it’s very difficult to find quality photos of beds that are free to use. I can find beds that don’t look good. I can find lots of beds that include people in their underwear. I can find perfect beds that come with a price tag. I thought about asking for submissions from my community but Mrs Brother Jack pointed out that could get creepy.
I would love to resume a cover song series but I’m not sure that it will include bed photographs. I am thinking maybe I will try something with a couch. I enjoyed learning how to use the green screen. That is probably a story for another time.
