Every year, when October rolls around, I get an itch to write a spooky song. Werewolves are off the table because it’s impossible to beat that verse about “beef chow mein.” There are lots of great songs about witches. Frankenstein feels like fertile ground but the tall silent type doesn’t provide much low-hanging fruit. I wrote a song last year about the devil’s horn. It is appropriately titled “Devil’s Horn.” It’s more of a tone poem than an actual song and I’m not sure what to do with it. I want to write a spooky song. I’m leaning towards crows. Crows could be spooky.
